Canadian Organic Wild Rice rice comes from grain harvested from a specific genus of wild grass. Wild rice is not rice, but a grass. Much of it sold today is grown in man made lakes or ponds, (paddy rice), where the lakes are drained in the fall for harvest. Once harvested, even over time it retains the same nutrient value and flavour. Easy to keep, easy to cook, and the perfect accompaniment to any dish, Wild Rice is low in fat, gluten free, high in protein and fiber, as well as a source of essential minerals and vitamins. With the bran of the grains intact, the cooked rice has a chewy texture similar to brown rice, a toasty, nutty, earthy flavor, and can often smell and taste slightly like black tea. It is considered one of the healthiest forms of rice.
Blends well with long grain rices, brown or white. It is a pleasing compliment to a variety of meats, poultry, fish or shell fish, and makes a unique addition to soups, salads, casseroles, breads or desserts.
Preparation: Our favourite way to prepare this rice is to rinse the rice really well, then add 4C fresh water to every 1C wild rice, bring just to a boil, then simmer for 50 min
